Yummy Candy Everywhere

This week I decided to make some old fashioned sheet rock candy.

SO easy. You need:

Big old pot
Thermometer
Sugar
water
corn syrup
flavor oil
Food color
baking sheets lined with aluminum
icing powder

Start by lining your pans with the foil and generously spreading on icing sugar.

So you take your pot put it on medium high heat and add the thermometer in. Pour in 1 cup of water, 1.5 cups corn syrup and 3.75 cups of cane sugar. STIR CONSTANTLY. You want to stir until suagr is melted - this means it will look brown but start to look see through. Around 80 degres usually I stop.

Now, STOP STIRRING  DON"T STIR ANYMORE!  Now it is the waiting game! Wait until the thermometer reaches 300 degrees! Dont touch it, it will take about 20 to 40 minutes depending on your climate. Once it hits 300 degrees remove pot from heat quickly and add in .5 tsp flavor oil and color until desired shade. Stir in vigorously and work quick - this stuff hardens fast. make sure color is spread out evenly then pour onto baking sheet.

Now, after a few minutes it will get a little hard. Here you can decide if you are going to leve it in sheets and crack in once it cools, or if you want to skor it so you can have even chunks. Pizza cutters work very well for this!

Here are some photos of my success - I did some rainbow gift bags for a party - candy was vanilla, peach, cherry and raspberry
